Guten Tagging

The graffiti is everywhere but although i’ve wandered the streets at pretty much every hour of the day and the night I have yet to spot anyone creating it. Perhaps that is part of the point.

Or so I thought, but Berlin has this way of surprising me even when i am getting used to the idea of being surprised..

Tonight I went to 120 minute Wild West in the East party.. it started at 21:47 hr and they claimed it was going to be 120 minutes long.. it was.. they counted down to kicking us out at thirteen minutes to midnight. If i had known that was the plan (and yes admittedly that was essentially what the flyers said so i can hardly complain) but had i known I might have arrived nearer to 21:47 than 22:42… which by the standards of any other Berlin party would have been unconscionably early.. i guess I still have a lot to learn about Berlin..

But tonight i learnt something about graffiti.. or at least.. something about tagging.. and did so in spooky style. At the party, I had got talking to the loudest, happiest person there (a strategy I recommend to you) though in truth once i had said hello i didn’t get much of a word in.

As we were being kicked out, we went to mark our territory in the loos where something I saw surprised me greatly.. (no!) already my new best friend had surprised me with greater fluency in english than I possess now he was stealing my identity too.. his tag was Bonobos… who as we all know are the greatest of all the great apes. The world would be a lot more like paradise if we were all Bonobos. Jon knew this and was (probably for other reasons) know as monkey to his friends.

Leaving with his other friend known for now as P.I.A. (Punk Intelligence Agency) we proceeded up the street as the police might say.. breaking the law, as in the course of a 10 minute walk, the pair of them added about a hundred tags to Berlins creative landscape. To add to the wonderful serendipity of this discovery of how art gets made, I was even mroe gobsmacked to see that P.I.A. chosen metier is little friendly ghosts

As you can see in my all new art gallery
