Fodor on meaning of life

“I rather doubt that life has a meaning. If I thought perhaps it did, and I wanted to find out what its meaning is, I don’t imagine I’d ask someone whose credentials consist of a PhD in philosophy.” – Jerry Fodor

from an interview with Mark Vernon

which reminds me that i really must revive the bit of my site where, i prove that he speaks the truth..

For those of you who came late, I once wrote to all 643 professional philosophers in the UK, asking them almost exactly that question. A mere 30-odd wrote back. Most denied the question itself had any meaning, some blamed god, one quoted Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure and I even received a death threat.

About caspar

Caspar is just one monkey among billions. Battering his keyboard without expectations even of peanuts, let alone of aping the Immortal Bard. By day he is an infantologist at Birkbeck Babylab, by night he runs BabyLaughter.net
